How To Properly Remove the Glass in a Broken Window
If you have a broken window it may seem like an overwhelming task to remove the glass. But, depending on what type of window you have, it might not be as hard as it seems.
When replacing broken glass in a window, you don’t necessarily have to replace the entire frame. You might be able to get away with only having to replace the broken window pane. The pane is held in with strips of molding on the frame and on top of the glass. To get the glass out, the molding must be removed carefully with a knife. Place pieces of tapes across the broken window to keep it together upon removal and keep yourself save from the broken glass. It’s important to use goggles or eye protection and gloves when removing the glass. Use a putty knife to lift and remove the broken glass. Then clean the area by scraping the old molding using the putty knife. Use a vacuum to safely remove any shards that may have fallen during the entire process for safety reasons.
